Happy New Year!

by Michael

The band has been rehearsing almost every week, continuing to fold in Bob to the mix (or is he folding us in?!).  Working up more material, both covers and originals, with the idea of getting a gig or two in med to late February.  We almost have enough material to play 3 sets, which is the goal.  Michael, with press kits in hand, will het the bars in the next week to secure gigs.  We'll let everyone know as soon as dates are firmed up.  We hope to see you at a show soon.

New photos were taken of the band before rehearsal the other night, and are on our website now.  All the photos were altered in some way, to give the site a more retro feel.

Don't forget that our extended play CD, Nautically Challenged, is available thru download at mp3.com or by contacting Michael for a physical copy.  Copies will be available at our gigs too.

The Songs Are Posted

By Michael

Finished what we believe to be the final mixes of our four original songs, and the mp3s of these songs are now available for your listening pleasure on our website, on the music page.  Shortly they will be made available for purchase on MP3.com.

Have a listen and let us know what you think.  We appreciate any and all feedback.

In other band news, we have a new guitarist waiting in the wings to fill the void left by Taner (that bastard - see below).  Bob will be joining us for rehearsal shortly, to see if he will fit in to our groove.  He is a friend of Erik's, and they played together on other projects (Erik Dorris), so we're optimistic that he will fit right in.  As soon as we get Bob up to speed, we'll find some place to play out again, maybe for an EP release party.  Stay tuned for that.

Down To The Final Mix

By Michael

Stacey and I returned to Handwritten to put the final touches on the four songs.  I added two additional vocal parts, and an overdub piano part.  Then we tweaked with the first draft mixes based on everyone's notes.  We think we've got it to a release-able state.  Everyone in the band will now listen to these, and if there are any changes necessary, we'll phone those in to the boys at Handwritten to take care of, because they should be minor (if there are any).

As soon as the band gives the thumbs up, we'll post copies on the website, and upload them to mp3.com for purchase.  And we'll let you when that happens.

We're almost there.

Taner, That Bastard!

By Michael

Well, I guess it's really going to happen.  Taner is leaving us.

He announced several weeks back to us that he was going to move to Austin Texas, to pursue his music interests there.  We (I'll speak for the group) were hoping that he would chicken out, or not be able to find someone to sublet his apartment, or a hurricane would wipe out the town or something (almost happened).  Because we all like Taner alot, and we LOVE the way he plays the guitar.  And finding a great guitarist, with no attitude or ego, well that's almost impossible.  But I guess we'll have to start the search, because Taner is moving in a few days.

It has been a great pleasure getting to know Taner, and to play with him these past few months.  And we wish him all the best as he starts a new chapter in Austin.  He is always welcome to come back and play with us again.  He will be missed.

In The Mix

By Michael

We are up to our ears in mixing these four songs, having cranked out a version 1 mix for the four of us to take home, listen to repeatedly, then offer notes or corrections on these mixes.  The four originals, by the way, are "Beautiful Day", "So In Love", "Wonderful Things", and "Should I?".

We're scheduled to return to Handwritten to finish up later next week.  So we'll get to work on artwork and content for a CD jewel case, and try and get these into the hands of anyone who would like a listen as soon as possible.  They'll make great stocking stuffers!  The holidays are fast approaching.

So check the website often, as we'll announce when the songs are posted to mp3.com, and when they become available for sale as a CD in an actual jewel case and all.  I guess we should organize a CD release party.

Cheers.

Hand Ritten

By Stacey

So here's whats up at this moment.

We are currently in the studio mixing our four original songs at Handwritten Recording on Belmont Ave in Chicago. Like, literally right now. I'm using their computer.

The guys at HR are pretty great. If you've never been here, you should stop by and check it out. Or first check out their website - www.handwrittenrecording.com - and then stop by and check it out in person. Whichever you prefer. All the articles about the place after they first opened compared them to early Sun Studios, back in the days of Johnny Cash and (Oh my god, my dream come true) Elvis Presley, when musicians could walk in off the streets and lay down anything they wanted. Rick, Ryan and JP are their names, and they couldn't be nicer or more helpful - especially if it's your first time recording (like me!).
We were here last night from 7 till midnight, and will be here tonight just as late. But it will all be worth it once you all get to hear my rockin' vocals on our hot tracks. Taner, Erik and Michael's parts sound pretty okay too, I guess.

So for all of you Captain fans out there - keep your eyes on our 'music' webpage for the soon-to-be-downloadable songs!
Also coming soon: video footage of the Captain in action at Martyr's!
